Pryor Ranch Celebrates A Great Broodmare: Sandy Bar Seeker!
By Gabrielle Sasse
We recently posted an article on behalf of Pyror Ranch and DeGraff Stables, congratulating DGS Collect Me, a filly out of the great mare Highly Collectable. Well, Pryor Ranch has done it again, home to another great producing mare! This time we would like to highlight Sandy Bar Seeker, a 1984 AQHA mare by Wonder Seeker who is “29 years young” according to Judy Pryor, and has produced some great babies who are now producing even more winners!
“Whenever anyone comes to our farm, they are always amazed [this mare]” raves Judy. “She either comes trotting over with a spry step or lopes in a way that is a double take. Everyone comments on what an incredible mover she is, especially for one so old’!” And this great mover comes from winning parents. Sandy is by Wonder Seeker, a Supreme Champion stallion and out of Kids Demantina, who was sired by another Supreme Champion, Kid Meyers, who is by Three Bars and out of Miss Meyers, a World Champion AHQA Top AAA Racing Horse with a speed index of 100.
“Sandy is quite a gal for us,” says Judy. “She goes wherever we tell her to go, no halter. She is shy and really doesn’t enjoy being fussed over, but is a wonderful baby sitter for new horses or weaning colts. This mare is a joy and probably the one horse everyone here will remember.”
Sandy Bar Seeker has had several fantastic sons. Deck Mate (deceased) is just one of the few. Another who is currently standing at stud is PR Deck Me Fine, by Deck of Stars, who is owned by Steve and Sue Fisher. PR Deck Me Fine, “Duke”, has produced some great winners as well!
“PR My Pleasure has my heart,” reminisces Judy. “We were saving him as a breeding stallion until Jessie and Joe McCrumb purchased him.” And what a purchase it was for the McCrumbs! PR My Pleasure has 697.5 AQHA points with 35 achievements in Halter, Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Showmanship and Equitation. “This horse has it all, but his owner and rider wanted it all. And they DID all, accomplishing it with flying colors!”
Sandy is the dam of Pryor Ranch’s “fancy broodmare” PR In Your Decks, a mare by Deck of Stars. PR In Your Decks is the mother of Pryor Ranch’s young stallion PR Corona Bay, who is by Zips Chocolate Chip. Judy raves “this has been a magic cross for years!”
Sandy has provided several other farms with great broodmares. PR Special Hailey is owned by Rystroms Quarter Horses who has several foals just starting their show careers. Robin DeGraff owns the last daughter of Sandy’s, PR Sandy Jo Jack who is expecting her first foal in 2013.
“One of Sandy’s greatest achievements for Pryor Ranch has been providing babies for Jessie McCrumb and Lin Johnson,” states Judy. “These two women know no boundaries and have achieved everything they have worked for through dedication and long hours.”
Lin Johnson had purchased Deck N Go from Judy, and another purchase that provided many years of… interesting wins! Deck N Go has been a 3x World Champion with 1245 plus points in AQHA and APHA breed shows, including numerous All Around Circuit Champions. This pair has also won buckles in the Extreme Cowboy Race! Called the “Number One Horse Agility Class”, horse and rider must go through tunnels, fetch things, jump, perform figure eights, climb on and off using the fence… and all of this Lin does by voice commands and clicking! Lin has taught her equine partner to perform all sorts of tricks and neat things all with voice commands. Quite Decked Out was purchased by Lin Johnson as a follow up horse to Deck N Go, choosing to compete in the cattle events with Al Dunning.
The McCrumbs not only own PR My Pleasure, but also purchased Cant Be Duplicated. This horse was later sold to a youth, with achievements in youth Hunter Under Saddle, Youth Showmanship and is also ridden in Select Hunter Under Saddle.
Sandy Bar Seeker is truly a proven producer, and has captured Judy’s heart at Pryor Ranch. “We could not have done with without the love and dedication from each and every owner” says Judy. “Sandy and Pryor Ranch thank all of you for this legacy that started in Mississippi when I first saw her at Betty Livingston’s breeding farm. What an incredible journey!”
