PleasureHorse.com would like to congratulate Jane McCurley-Backes and Only With Honor on their big Reichert Celebration win, and to wish them luck at Congress! Only With Honor is a three-year-old filly by Invitation Only out of Vested Miss Buckeye. “Charlie” is a Backes “homebred” that is the last foal out of Vested Miss Buckeye, dam of Backes’ stallion Good Machinery. “We lost the mare last year,” explains Jane, “so we plan on keeping Charlie to replace the mare in the broodmare band after Charlie is retired from the show pen.”

Charlie started her career at the Congress last year, making the Finals in the Coughlin Two Year old Class in BOTH Open and Limited Open Western Pleasure! “Throughout this year, we have put on 35 Pleasure points and won money at the Tom Powers, Show For The Dough, NSBA World Show and the Reichert Celebration!” elaborates Jane. “She really shone at the Reichert this year.” Charlie and Jane were part of the brand new Pleasure Series classes, winning the Reichert Pleasure Series Non Pro Three Year Old with Jane Backes, as well as showing with Farley Sliss (who was seven months pregnant at the time!), winning the $2500 Limited Open Rider Three Year Old, taking Reserve Champion Reichert Series Open 3yr old, and winning 3rd place NSBA Limited Open 3 yr old.

“I think the Pleasure Series was a really good idea on JR’s part,” shared Farley. “Obviously, those were some of the bigger classes towards the beginning of the show, and it gave some of us the opportunity to go in and do really well. Jane was really excited about it. That was the first time she had shown that mare, so it was a great way to test the waters in an NSBA approved kind of deal before she showed at the Congress.”

“This was the first show I had shown her at, and we won a beautiful work saddle that JR generously donated!” an excited Jane exclaimed. “We are headed to the Congress where I will show her in the Three Year Old Non Pro. Since Farley is due to have her baby this month, her husband Saul Sliss will show her in the Three Year Old Open and Green Western Pleasure.”

“I would really like to THANK The Reichert Celebration for ALL they do to bring excitement to the Industry!” Jane says. “They developed this GREAT new Pleasure Series to level the playing fields for both Non Pro and young trainers.  Kudos to JR for always helping create a fun, family friendly horse show!  Money, prizes, fun special events, random drawings and a great facility to host it in Ft Worth! Can’t wait to go back!”

Thanks to Jane and Farley, and best of luck to Jane and Saul at Congress this year! We look forward to watching you both do well with Charlie.
