July 3, 2016- Yesterday was a huge day at the Tom Powers with both the Western Pleasure Super Sires classes and the Maiden 2 Year Old Stakes Class with (a guaranteed $65,000 purse) rounding out the afternoon schedule. A lot was on the line for the Maiden Stakes class (where all entries sold in the 2015 Yearling Stakes), and after nearly an hour of intense competition, Patrick Heeley and Whose Your Bae Bee (owned by Susan Knapp) were named the 2016 champions, taking home a check for $25,000. Reserve went to Suddenly So Cool and Gil Galyean (owned by Chris Lagerblade) who snagged a $10,000 pay day. Sunday wraps up five days of showing, with a few hunter under saddle, youth classes, and western pleasure classes left.
July 2, 2016- As we move into the weekend, today packs a lot into one Saturday here at the Tom Powers. Not only do they have the regular futurity classes but also, the annual Tom Powers Yearling Stakes Sale, the Western Pleasure Super Sires western pleasure classes, and the Triple Challenge Maiden 2 Yr Old Sale Stakes. We will be covering as much of the yearling sale as we can, and it’s always exciting to see the future of the industry go off to start their careers with their new owners and return next year for the Maiden stakes. As always, we’re also uploading results when we get them, so be sure to check often for your favorite classes.
July 1, 2016- It’s amazing the difference a day can make! Yesterday, we saw sunny skies and dusty arenas, but Mother Nature changed her mind and we awoke to soggy arenas. The Tom Powers crew have been out with shop vacs and syphons to try to dry out the arena in time for this afternoon’s futurities, while the morning’s longe liners are taking to the indoor arena.
If you’re out and about at the show this evening, be sure to stop by the Western Pleasure Super Sires gazebo for some fiesta fun! They will be hosting an exhibitors’ party beginning at 6 PM with free Mexican food and drinks!
June 30, 2016 pm- The NSBA Foundation is selling t-shirts at the Tom Powers to benefit the Crisis Fund. The NSBA Crisis Fund helps those trainers in financial need who experience hardship or disaster or an expected injury or illness.
June 30, 2016 am- The weather continues to cooperate and be gorgeous here in Berrien Springs! We’re here on site, and as always, we’re impressed by the outstanding quality of horses here. So far, we’ve had two wonderful Hunter Under Saddle classes to kick off the day, and they certainly did not disappoint! Keep checking back for more news, photos, and results as we update throughout the day. If you see us, come by and say “hi.” We’d love to meet you!
