APHA’s newest venture in showing made its second debut at the inaugural Northwest Paint Horse Championship August 14–17.

The championship, held in conjunction with the Zone 1 Zone-O-Rama in Albany, Oregon, was designed to attract new exhibitors to the area’s APHA events by offering incentives and limited-eligibility classes. The Northwest Championship offered 13 Amateur and Youth classes, which were selected based on class popularity and participation within the zone.

To be eligible for the Northwest Paint Horse Championship classes, exhibitors were required to live in Zone 1—Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and British Columbia—and be current APHA members. Classes were limited to exhibitors attending the Zone 1 show for the first time.

Northwest champions received custom Gist Silversmiths trophy buckles, and medallions were awarded to second- through tenth-place exhibitors. Awards were sponsored by APHA.

Lacey Goldsby brought her A-game to the show to compete in the championship and clinched a win in Youth Showmanship.
