al be desireableThe Celeste Center and Congress fairgrounds was buzzing with excitement as the much-awaited Equine Chronicle Congress Two Year Old Master’s Classes were about to begin! First was the Hunter Under Saddle Master’s class, a slot class that was started in 2006. All horses in the Masters are Maiden horses, meaning tonight was the first night these two year olds have been shown. Talk about excitement!

Ten gorgeous (and some HUGE “babies”!) horses trotted into the pen, with a ten minute warm up time for these youngsters. It was quite the class, full of bays and chestnuts and one lone grey. All were vying for the big check, but new this year was a Limited Division check for the highest three placing Top Ten Limited-qualified riders, sponsored by Cinch. That award went to Lukinforagoodtime, shown by Jamie Murrow for Donna Mason.

The final placings left quite a bit of anticipation, with the top two horses tying for first! When it came down to it however, Nancy Sue Ryan and Al Be Desireable, owned by Patricia Hunter of San Juan San Juan, CA took the Master’s Champion! A major congratulations to Nancy Sue, who said “Lola” was “just a lovely mare. Very sweet.” The two year old is by Allocate Your Assets, our of a mare that Nancy had raised. She was trained by Jim and Deanna Searles. “She was nervous, but she behaved very very well. She was scared, but she tried! She did her best.” Nancy sue smiled.

“I rode her twice, about ten minutes [before the class],” she laughed. “They had her really well prepared.”

Reserve Champion went to Katy Jo Zuidema, riding What Matters Most for Judy Davis. Katy had a beautiful ride, and definitely deserved the tie for first. When it came down to it, it was an exciting finish to a wonderful class.

Third place went to Beth Case, riding her own gelding, Al Be Seeing Ya. “It was my first time showing my own horse at this, so I was really pleased,” explained Beth, who has been having a wonderful Congress this year. “Tom” and Beth had a wonderful ride.

Congratulations to all exhibitors, it was a tough go! We can’t wait to see all of these talented youngsters on the show circuit next year.
