Remembering a Legend: Skys Blue Boy
By Gabrielle Sasse
As many of our PleasureHorse community members are probably aware, the legendary stallion Skys Blue Boy passed away on October 30. We were able to talk to Linda Monaco, owner of “once in a lifetime” Skys Blue Boy, and wanted to remember this great stud and all that he has produced in the industry.
As of November 15, Skys Blue Boy had sired 206 World/Congress Champions and Reserve Champions. His offspring have earned over 21,000 AQHA Points, have titles in AQHA, APHA, NSBA and ApHC, and have won Skys Blue Boy the honor of a 2007 Leading Open Division Sire. His get have taken the Hunter world by storm, winning in Huntfield Derbys , Hunter Hack, Working Hunter, Hunter Under Saddle, Equitation Over Fences, Halter, Equitation on the flat, you name it. This 1993 gray stallion was a two time Congress Champion himself, in the 1996 Congress Millers Hunter Under Saddle Limited Division and again in 97 in the Junior Hunter Under Saddle class, not to mention 1997 Open High Point Hunter Under Saddle Stallion. He is by AQHA Versatility Champion Sky Blue Walker and out of a TB mare, Millies Dancer.
“It just takes the wind right out of your sails,” says a still heartbroken Linda. “[Ray and I] don’t have any children, and Skys Blue Boy was a member of our family.” Skys Blue Boy sadly passed away due to founder.
“What can BLUE do for you?” has been the slogan of Ray and Linda Monaco, who own Hunters Ridge Farm and “Blue”. And Blue has done a lot for his offspring. “He just… stamped them!” laughed Linda. “I always knew the Blue babies.” With only 643 foals, his offspring have accumulated 151 superior awards, 314 ROM’s, over 490 all-around wins and reserves and earnings of well over half a million dollars. He has been called the “ideal Hunter Under Saddle horse”, and continuously passes that on to his babies. In 2002 he was the Equistat Number 1 Leading Sire of Hunter Under Saddle Money Earners, and his offspring are going on to begin producing even more great winners.
Just a very few of Skys Blue Boy’s recent winning offspring include:

The list goes on and on… One only has to look at his Past and Present winners page on his site. His winning offspring also include Its All About Blue, just one of the great producing stallions Skys Blue Boy has sired. Its All About Blue has sired World, Congress, National and European Champions, and with the passing of Skys Blue Boy, has become the focus of Linda and Ray. Linda shared with me that Its All About Blue will be moving to stand at Masterson Farms in Somerville Tennessee, with Bobbie Parker, her new title, Director of Breeding Services. “Although the passing of Skys Blue Boy is something we can never forget, it gives us a chance to really focus on Its All About Blue,” explains Linda. “There have been a lot of changes around here, but we will keep doing what we do best… Achieve that Blue.”
We will be featuring more about Skys Blue Boy in our Stallion Issue of Show Horse Today in January. Linda would like to thank the overwhelming response from the entire equine community, and we at PleasureHorse.com would like to thank Linda for taking the time to speak with us. We offer our condolences at the loss of this legendary stallion, whose offspring will continue his winning ways in years to come.
