andreazippoAPHA Lifetime Leading Sire Zippos Sensation died July 10 at age 23. The 1993 sorrel overo stallion was owned by Simons Show Horses of Aubrey, Texas, and it was under their guidance that he became a pillar in the Paint Horse industry.

In honor of his substantial legacy to the breed, an American Paint Horse Foundation endowment has been created by the Simons family. Upon completion, the endowment will support additional scholarship money in Western pleasure classes at each AjPHA Youth World Championship Show, which takes place annually during the summer in Fort Worth, Texas. Zippos Sensation has sired 956 APHA-registered foals to date—469 of which have established APHA show records. While they have tallied more than 170 world championship and 162 reserve world championships—25 of those honors have been specifically in Western pleasure.

Zippos Sensation comes from Western pleasure royalty. His sire, Zippo Pine Bar was a legendary Western pleasure horse and AQHA Hall of Famer, and his dam, Satin N Lace, was also a star in the Western pleasure constellation. Not only was she a two-time national champion at halter and an APHA Champion, Satin N Lace was also a Western pleasure Honor Roll Western winner as a 3-year-old.

“It is our desire to use this endowment to increase scholarship funding in Western pleasure at the Youth show,” Andrea Simons said. “Many of his foals have excelled in that discipline, and it just seems fitting.”

To make a donation to this endowment, visit the APHF online donation form at Browse down to the “Honorarium or Memorial Endowment” section and type “Zippos Sensation” and the amount you would like to give. The Simons family will receive notification of your gift.
