American Quarter Horse Association members from nine Latin American affiliates have converged on Avaré, Sao Paulo, Brazil, for the Latin American Championships.

This event is slated for April 15-21 in conjunction with the 23rd Annual Congresso de Brasileiro (Brazilian Quarter Horse Association Congress), an event that drew more than 4,600 entries last year.

The Latin American Championships were conceived in December 2010 at the first Latin American Quarter Horse Summit, and the event is open to all youth, amateur and open AQHA members residing in Latin America.

The event began April 15, and champions will be crowned in dally team roping heading and heeling, barrel racing, pole pending, ranch sorting, team penning, reining, tie-down roping, cutting and halter.
