Exhibitor Spotlight: Katie Holland Won’t Let an Accident Slow Her Down!
Brandy Smith and the entire Pinto World Show crowd was wowed when Katie Holland rolled into the show pen. Not in a driving class… but in showmanship. She was competing from a motorized wheelchair, and doing very well at it. In fact, she didn’t let a small thing like a wheelchair stop her from becoming Pinto World Champion in Novice Amateur Showmanship.
Brandy caught up with Katie after making the finals in showmanship. The new World Champion shared that she had lost her leg in a tractor accident six years ago. Katie went mobile in the electric scooter two years ago, and then began showing halter horses. “I bought this mare, A Mystical Sensation, three years ago,” she said. “I began working showmanship with her two years ago to get her to this point.”
Katie was completely ecstatic with her win, and the entire crowd was awed by the performance. “I’m so happy the judges gave me credit for [my pattern]!” she exclaimed.
It just goes to show you that nothing can keep a horse girl down! Congrats to Katie and all of the other champions and competitors at the 2013 Pinto World Championship. Best of luck to everyone next year!
