It’s been a wonderful two days so far at the 2013 Tom Powers Triple Challenge Futurity! Thursday opened on a sloppy pen, but sunny skies, and the day got humid. A bit of rain fell on the last two classes of the day, but the worst of it held off until after the show had ended. The rain on Thursday night made for a beautiful day all day Friday! The pen dried up by the afternoon, and it stayed pleasantly warm instead of the humidity that plagued Thursday.  In fact, it was one of the most perfect Tom Powers days ever.

The show pen has been moving along smoothly, other than a minor incident during the first class Friday morning when an unidentified woman crashed her golf cart through the fence boards into the pen!! No one was hurt, and the show continued on after the excitement. The days have opened with gorgeous Hunter Under Saddle horses who have come to compete, and closed with the blingy and beautiful Western Pleasure competitors. Competition has been fierce, and there have been several ties after judge results from Jerry Erickson, Mike Hay, Judd Paul and Bruce Walquist have been weighed in.

The PleasureHorse.com team has certainly enjoyed our time spent in Michigan! The entire Tom Powers crew is as helpful and cheerful as always, and everyone we have talked to so far has been great conversation. Our new friend Dieter Wahr has been providing free live streaming video from the grounds, and we have gotten great photos from both Holman Photography and our own Heidi from PleasureHorse.com! Our new hire, Gabe, has been interviewing people around the grounds such as Tom and Dominique Powers and Congress Queen Emily Messing for our new YouTube Channel! Joe and the two ladies have been busy updating show results as they come in, and it has been great fun to watch ringside as new champions rise to the top.

A few of the class winners include:

Maturity Hunter Under Saddle $2,500 Limited Horse was a two way tie by Classic Minute Man (by Do You Have A Minute) ridden by Darla Lee, owned by Stephanie Violi Hintz  and Born Hot Feelin Good (by Born To Be Blazing) shown by Amber Hanson and owned by Deanna Bailey.

We are looking forward to tomorrow’s major 2 and 3 year old Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle classes, not to mention the Maiden 2 Year Old Sale Stakes Western Pleasure Class, with a $50,000 purse!! The Equine Sports Medicine Pig Roast, put on to benefit the NSBA Trainer Crisis Fund AND the Yearling Sale are both going to be a great close to the day! The weekend will wrap up with a few classes on Sunday, including what is sure to be an adorable Walk Trot 9 and Under class.
