    EVENT: AQHA All Breed Trail Challenge at Raccoon Creek State Park, PA

    LOCATION: Raccoon Creek State Park 3000 State Rte. 18 Hookstown, PA 15050

    FEES: Trail Challenge/Participant: $25 box lunch included with paid entry ($7 to purchase)

    ADDITIONAL OPTIONS/FEE: Team Sponsor Challenge $100; with 5 riders per group; Riders registered with PA’s Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) having 8 hours of volunteer work with state park or forest ride free!

    BACKGROUND: Raccoon Creek State Park has continued to develop from the park's early beginnings as a Recreational Demonstration Area operated by the National Park Service in the 1930's, to one of the largest and most beautiful state parks in Pennsylvania. Facilities at the park are a mix from the early Civilian Conservation Corps camp to more modern facilities. In addition, to recreational areas, there are large tracts of undeveloped land the 7, 572-acre park which features the beautiful 101- acre lake. This includes several historic sites and 16 miles of fully mapped equestrian trails.

    TRAIL DETAILS: Clear cut trails and park roads on easy to intermediate terrain through woods and fields of the State Park. Rolling hills, wooded paths, dirt and gravel roads. Hikers and Bikers may share the Equestrian trails. Paths are primarily dirt and gravel but, horses will encounter asphalt, creeks and park roads as the Riders navigate through the Park. Memorial Day Holiday weekend in the park is busy and Riders may encounter weekend campers.

    ITINERARY: 8am-10 am Exhibitor Registration; 10:00 am Q&A session with the Trail Challenge Judges;
    10:30 am Ride begins--first group rides out; 3:30 Park Educational Ranger, Pat Adams to discuss Raccoon Creek’ Equestrian Trails and Park Etiquette; 4pm Award Ceremony

    DIRECTIONS: Please use physical address: 3000 State Rte. 18 Hookstown, PA 15050 for GPS or Mapquest. Once at the park Municipal Building, please follow the signs to the Recreational Center.


    STALLS AVAILABLE: No; off-site local boarding stables may offer stalls for the night/weekend. Please call with needs.

    FACILITIES AVAILABLE: Recreation Hall and Municipal Building has rest rooms, port-a-jons available at various rest areas throughout the park. Horse trailer parking for the day in designated areas. Playground area for kids. Trailer tying only—please bring muck buckets to pick up after your horse. Limited water is available but, riders are encouraged to bring own water for horses.

    HORSE HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: Negative Coggins within 6 months; Current 2013 Vaccination history required. Horses without health documentation will not be allowed to unload; at the discretion of the Event Coordinators, horses deemed unfit or in poor condition will not be allowed to compete. Fitness and equipment exam prior to competition.

    ADDITIONAL AMENITIES: Lake swimming, non-equestrian camping or cabins available, hiking, biking. Local shopping. 30 minutes from City of Pittsburgh.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: All AQHA Trail Rules apply in addition to Raccoon Creek and Pennsylvania State Park Rules.
